On to the miniatures then. This post hopes to show off what I have achieved since I started the Third Edition project in August. First up, the ethos (guess I do have one then) as I am attempting to paint up my miniatures using only the original paints available during the period of interest.

Namely these three sets.

And the contents look a little like this.

In addition to these colours I have banned the new (and rather good actually) washes from my painting arsenal. Luckily, I have a full set of 1980s citadel ink washes also.

This is to be coupled with the fact that we ONLY play with ORIGINAL citadel miniatures from 1985-1992. If they are older than this - they cannot be used!

First up, my Khornate beastmen.

Slaaneshi beastmen.

Monsters

Skaven

Champions and Characters

Chaos Thugs

Bloodletters

Fleshound

These models represent the last six months of work. What do others think? Any comments or criticisms?

  1. First off all welcome to the club! I love your paintjobs, you really managed to capture the spirit of the 80's.

This inspires me to continue my work on the Realms of Chaos army builder files. I've already done the army lists in the Warhammer Armies book and I'm now doing both Realms of Chaos books. Including Chaos Champions with attribute generation.

  2. Thank you for your positive comments about the 80s feel of the miniatures. It was hard to change to a new style and new range of paints - loosing Devlan Mud was the hardest thing!

I am very impressed with your dedication to 3rd. The use of a computer based army rules system is certainly a very attractive option for our games. However, I have never heard of Army Builder before and the wife will grumble if I drop £20 on such a program. How well does third operate under the free trial? Is it worth running it this way first?

Realms of chaos is another kettle of fish. We use these books far more than the 3rd edition rulebook now. So keep up the good work.

  3. The limitation of the trial edition is that you can only add up to three units to your roster. However, the trial doesn't restrict you from exploring all the features the program has. If you play often, I highly recommend it. Not only does it speed up the process of creating an army list, it also does all the necessary rule validation and point calculations for you. So, unless you know all the calculation errors, typos, WD rules and inconsistencies in the Warhammer Armies book, you probably still want to use it ;) Have a look at it and let me know what you think. I could use the feedback of a 3rd ed. player.
