I've given up!
I'm going have to collect Rogue Trader too. Quite where that will fit into the 'grand plan', who knows!?
These dioramas are tipped me over the edge. The John Blanche diorama I posted earlier got a fantastic response, and I'd found these alongside it, so I have decided to post them too.
Fantastic aren't they?
Again, I'm letting the models speak for themselves.
However, I'm not one hundred percent who they are by. Gut instinct says Mike McVey but if you know different please comment and give us the full facts.
Orlygg.
The last one -and in my humble opinion- quite possibly "the" best rogue trader diorama was done by Dave Andrews.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't mind betting that he did the first one too.
He still works for GW, and despite this black mark against him, he continues to make awesome diorama's from time to time.
Be careful Orlygg, you know where this unhealthy appetite for rogue trader mini's will end up.....trawling ebay till the wee hours.
I've just done a little more research. McVey did the Emperor vs Horus diorama.
DeleteDave Andrews is indeed a legend of old school GW. He and Blanche must be the longest standing members now, surely?
Gotta love those Womble faced Marines! If I was ever to get into 40K in any form (highly unlikely at this stage) I would have to give all my Marines the pointy face. Classic.
ReplyDeleteI've just stumbled on your blog whilst googling for 3rd edition stuff and it's fast becoming one of my most visitred sites. I'm especially grateful for the list of old warhammer novels. I read most of them when I started in 4th edition and Drachenfels was probably the first 'grown ups' book I read, but I didn't know about the short story anthologies so will be seeking them out.
ReplyDeleteDo you have a way to email/pm you pretty quickly? Tried clicking your profile pic but there's no option. I want to send you a link I can't really put in comments section (sounds clandestine but pretty mundane - re oop minis)
Yes, you can contact me here...

Looking forwards to hearing from you!
Email sent :) Cheers
DeleteLove these dioramas - thanks for posting!
ReplyDeleteSome things always puzzled me though - why are there two green genestealers in the Space Hulk diorama? I'm sure the answer is probably - because there are - but maybe someone has the inside story? Also reminds me that I NEED to get hold of some of those lovely metal genestealer minis to replace the horrible placcy ones I currently have in my Genestealer cult.
As for the Orky one - anyone know the identity of the brown Ork in power armour? who's hanging off the wall in the top left of the pic? The posing of the group of the marines below him is just brilliant!
The green 'stealers are the rare early one with a different style head. Perhaps that's why they're painted differently.
DeleteJust coming on this one a good half year later: Mike McVey did the Space Hulk one, it was on the back of the red Citadel Painting guide and there is a photo of Mike on the inside, with the diorama sitting next to him on his spotlessly clean work-table. That diorama held so much inspiration for me...
ReplyDeleteI remember the Spacehulk one as a kid, Damn I wanted all those figures, I have a few these days, which reminds me I really need to paint them up.....
