The XWD Team

"In 1992 a group of magazine rejects were sent into limbo by a new management team for a crime they did commit. These creatures promptly escaped from the wheelie bins around the back of the Design Studio to the Old World underground. Today, still no longer wanted by the management they survive as soldiers of fortune... If you have a problem, and no-one (and we really do mean no-one) can help, and if you can find them... maybe you can hire the XWD Team."

The White 'Hannibal' Dwarf

B.O. Thrud

'Howlin' Mad' Gobbledigook
Two Face (literally) Templeton Speck

Do you like my little warband? I hope so. I planned to field them at Paul Mitchell's Oldhammer game at the Foundry last week but my hernia held me back from travelling. Despite this setback I thought I would share this photograph with you. All of these minis are old paintjobs save Gobbledigook, who is brand new.

  1. Great to see them still going strong! Gobbledigook was always a favourite of mine.

    1. Mine too - here was in my first ever issue of WD and I have long wanted a model of him. He's quick to paint too being so simply designed.

    1. I am glad you spotted that. I wanted to try and reference the 'pumped' look from the Pumping Iron film.

  7. Any thoughts on how they will be knocking out B.O. Thrud to get him on a Dwarf Gyrocopter?

    1. Probably slipping a sprinkle of warpstone into his ale down the Hobbit's Armpit.

  8. Great work on some of the absolute classics. Thrud especially Thruddy. And it's fun to look at Gobbledigook (who you said is recent) and compare him to your earlier work. My eye sees much more continuity than difference, but it would be interesting to hear what you think.

  9. All have been painted in the last year or so I think. So no huge time period. Perhaps I should compare the very first Oldhammer paintjob with them?

    1. I'd like to see that.

(I often wonder whether my own painting skill has improved or degenerated over time. I'm still unsure.)

    2. It will make one of those great blogger/social media things we all do as a community. Post for first and latest Oldhammer paint job or something.
