Oldhammer Painting Competition/Festival: Da Golden Gobbos

I have a confession.

The lovely image I posted the other day of the 'Golden Goblins' was nicked off another site. I was just looking for something quick to attract interest in the idea. It was there and I pinched it!

I feel guilty now...

Why? Because its not ours. Its from some other group of people's work. Due to this, I was wondering if any graphics minded bloggers out there could whip up an image for us to help advertise the competition/festival so that entries can post the image on their blog pages much like we do with Oldhammer itself.

After all, we need to build a BRAND!

So what am I looking for?

1) A rectangular or square image which contains the text 'Da Golden Gobbos' at the top and 'Oldhammer's Easy Going Painting Competition' at the bottom.

2) A nice brightly colour image (of a goblin, or goblinoid looking creature) holding, well, an old hammer. If this image could ape the style of graphics from late 80s early 90s WD then all the better, though this is not essential.

3) If you have any other ideas of your own feel free to add them.

So, can anyone help?

Orlygg.

  1. I'll do my best to have a go - I'm an illustrator. I'm a bit busy at the moment, but it would be cool to be involved.

  2. How about this for an idea; I said in my original competition idea post that I'd dig something out of the lead pile as a prize. I happen to have a spare of MD6/O http://solegends.com/citcat912/c20184gbattlechar-h.htm.

On a nice plinth painted up gold he would make a great oldhammer golden gobbo trophy that I'd be happy to pass to the winner. So long as they agree to pass it on to the next winner, I don't have an unlimited supply of them after all!

The golden gobbo would therefore need to look like the figure.

As an aside I actually ran a golden gobbo competition, exact same name, at my club many moons ago with the intention of making a similar trophy, however as the winner I never got round to it.

    1. What a good idea! He looks suitably 'citadelesque' for such a competition. Thank you for your generosity, as long as you are happy to pass the model on, of course?

(Regal voice): I hereby commission you to produce the trophy!

There's another benefactor willing to offer a prize I am waiting to hear back from, so it may not JUST be a trophy that the winner receives.

    2. Just to confirm that I'm really willing to sponsor the competition with a set of the 6 Pirate Goblins that I did commissioned to Kevin Adams !

  3. I might give this a go, gives me an excuse to get the pens out. Here's a link to a post that includes a couple of my drawings, if this is sort of what you want give me a shout

    2. Really great pictures and for my money bang on the style, if Orlygg is happy with my trophy idea I'd love to see your interpretation of the MD6/O hammer goblin.

    3. The images look fantastic! Just what we need. Perhaps in the future we should get some Oldhammer T-Shirts made with original 'old school' pictures (if such an oxymoron is possible).

    4. Cheers very much! I don't mind putting together some drawings for anything you need, just give me a shout on what you have in mind and I'll get doodling. What sort of time-scale are you looking at?

    5. No real time scale. I'm keen to get the competition started. As has been discussed elsewhere, we want to give plenty of time for people to choose an entry, get it painted up and design the background.

Once the competition is on hand, we can ret-con things to include banners and artwork on people's blogs etc. I'm hoping that this miniature painting competition is the first of many. Ultimately, we need to run a smaller event first to identify any teething problems.

    6. No worries, I'll try and get something started next week. I like Erny's chariot idea but your idea of the Goblin with the Oldhammer has given me an idea...

    7. No no, it's not the chariot, its the goblin holding a hammer that was one of the possible riders of that chariot. I have him spare and propose painting him up gold, mounting him on a plinth and having him as a prize.

      See : http://old-hammer.blogspot.co.uk/2012/07/oldhammer-golden-gobbo.html

If this is suitable inspiration great but don't let me stand in the way of your creativity.

    8. I was thinking along these lines, just a quick scribble knocked up on my lunch break:

    9. And there was much awesomeness.

    10. Thanks very much, I've just got to find time now to create a proper image if the mighty Orlygg approves of the direction

    11. Well, I was going to have a go myself, but after seeing Headnhalf's golden gobbo, there's no point!

  4. This all looks brilliant - nice design Headnhalf!
